X-RAY TELEVISION SYSTEMS – FILIN (REOP)

category: materials

Based on the X-ray optics converter (REOP)
X-ray television systems convert X-rays into the visible image. The image is formed at the outlet window of X-ray optics converter. The optic system with high-resolution CCD-camera, installed beyond the outlet window forms the analogue or digital video signal that comes to the black-and-white monitor of high contrast, then to the computer system of X-ray images archiving and improvement “SOVA+”.

The image is formed directly in real time mode making the control process quick and convenient. The capability of the system to arrange the electro-optical zoom allows scanning of the object under examination with higher resolution.  The application together with system of mechanical manipulators, conveyers, rolling tables allows the on-line scanning of practically any objects in their arbitrary positions.

- Application of high-contrast cermet X-ray optic converter of the company THALES
- Extremely high radiation sensitivity at low noise and geometrically regular image
- Low radiation absorbed dose to the environment
- High resolution and stability of the image
- Electro-optical zoom available
- Low lag effect and small smearing effects
- Possibility to control objects in movement
- Digital processing of radiographs
- Large capabilities of archiving system
- Automated flaws search

We can offer several series of the systems that differ by their technical characteristics.

Series 765 – universal cheap systems for majority of applications. The use of analogue 2/3” ccd-camera with intensification of marginal sharpness and fast collimating optics with image rotation on 90º allows obtaining the sharp picture with high contrast and resolution.

Series 758 is designed for the control of objects in movement. The use of high-speed camera of progressive scanning and electronic shutter allows obtaining the excellent results on resolution and sensitivity at the speeds of up to 6m/min.

The standard cameras first read uneven lines of CCD-matrix, then even lines. During the interval between two readings the object under examination has the time to move respectively to the camera, and the uneven lines find themselves moved in respect with the even lines. This results in the decrease of system resolution. Thin cracks become invisible. The camera of progressive scanning reads all the lines in succession, and doesn’t any shear effect. This series of systems was developed especially for the application at tube rolling mills.

Series 1024 uses the digital camera of progressive scanning with CCD-matrix size of 1”  (1024х1024 pixels), which allows obtaining the higher resolution than in standard systems. The 10-bit digital output (1024 gradations of grey color) allows obtaining the high-quality contrast image.

These systems are used in aircraft industry, atomic power engineering and in similar critical fields of the industry where it is necessary to get the image with maximum spatial resolution. Systems of series 1024 could be also used for the inspection of objects in movement practically without any losses in resolution. The possibility of full control over such camera parameters like gain, passband, levels of white and black, integration time, shutter speed makes this system series ideal for the application in research laboratories of the plants.

Series 2048 is practically similar to series 1024, but it uses the most up-to-date ccd-camera with matrix size of 2” (2048x2048 pixels). This allows the maximum possible approach of the system resolution to the resolution of X-ray optics converter. The frame rate of the camera is 4 frames/ second only; therefore these systems are used for scanning fixed or slowly moving objects. Digital systems don’t have video output to analogue monitor and can work only when using the system of image improvement SOVA+.

All systems can have different dimensions of inlet window:
6” (150mm), 9” (230mm), 12” (305mm), 14”  (355mm) and 16”(405mm).

FILIN-6Н   ХХХХ – systems with small inlet window, one zoom mode and resolution. These systems are suitable for the radiographic inspection of small pieces and welds in pipes and tank wagons where the small size of inlet window is compensated by smooth movement of the object. Low price of the system makes from it a good choice for majority of other applications.

FILIN -9Н  ХХХХ – this system could be considered as the most universal. Rather big inlet window allows the direct scanning of big pieces and two modes of electro-optic zoom allows obtaining the resolution which is not inferior to the systems with small inlet windows. This system is suitable for the inspection of big pieces when the manipulator is available, for the scanning of the weld ends in the pipes, for the scanning of wheel disks and in many other applications. Relatively high price of the system is compensated by high parameters and usability.

FILIN -12Н ХХХХ – this system with big inlet window is used when it is necessary to scan details with high capacity, e.g. cast wheel disks. The system equipped with ordinary camera of series 765 has a low resolution and is designed for the detection of large flaws. To those who need to scan big pieces with higher resolution we can advise the digital system of series 1024.

FILIN -14Н ХХХХ, FILIN-14Н ХХХХ - these systems with a very big inlet window are used when it is necessary to scan big pieces with high capacity and low resolution, e.g. light-alloy castings. The systems are completed with cameras on 1024x1024 or 2048x2048 pixels.

All the systems are designed for the operation at the X-ray tube voltage of up to 450 kV when there is no any direct unshielded radiation. In most part of the systems it is possible to use a special X-ray converting tube having the higher resistance to the direct unshielded radiation and total radiation absorbed dose. In the series 765 it is possible to simultaneously apply the monitor and the system of image improvement. The temperature range of operation makes up from -10ºС to +45ºС.

All these systems could be equipped with optics of changeable focal distance. This gives possibility to the operator to dynamically change the gain and improve the system resolution at the proportional reduction of effective inlet diameter. This is a budgetary alternative to the high-resolution camera. It is possible to install the camera with higher dynamic range of 12-bit (4096 gradations of grey) in all these systems.

We could produce for you the X-ray television system with necessary parameters: tube voltage up to 450kV; resolution of the system itself of up to  7.5 lp/mm; geometrical zoom of up to 200 times with application of micro-focus X-ray source; speed of up to 12m/min; complete memorization of the object under examination; automated scanning and many others.
