FOSFOMATIC system
History of development

First system FOSFOMATIC-21 was created in 2004 on the base of scanning unit KODAK ACR-2000.
During the pilot operation some disadvantages were detected. The system was not enough sensitive to the Roentgen which impeded the use of FOSFOMATIC with X-ray pulsed units “Arina” widely spread in Russia. 

The resolution and contrast sensitivity did not meet the first class of sensitivity as per GOST-7512.
Two years we were working on the modernization of the system. The use of new intensifier increased the dose sensitivity of the system in about 5 times, which provided the efficient work of the instrument with units “Arina”. The application of new optics and substitution of internal electronics with up-to-date 18-bit speed ADC allowed the achievement of the D4 film quality and being within the range of strongest standards as per GOST7513-82, PNAE G-7-010-89 and PNAE G-07-25-90.

The adaptation of widely spread software of images processing and archiving SOVA+ for the operation with phosphorous plates allows the fulfillment of all Rostechnadzor and Minatom requirements such like provision of initial radiograph invariability, information encryption, access isolation, issuing of control protocols as per GOST 7512-82 etc.

Since 2006 we presented on the market three FOSFOMATIC models (model 21, model 35, model 40), differing from each other both by their technical parameters and by capabilities of software.

Over the period of 2006-2007 we supplied systems to many industrial enterprises of Russia and gathered the invaluable experience of using systems under different operation conditions, for example:
- experience in operation in field conditions. The system is successfully used for the inspection of welded connections and joints of pipelines of different purpose with wall thicknesses from 3 to 37 mm – JSC VNIIST (more than 1000 joints), company “Politest” , some affiliates of Gasprom etc.
- experience in using this system for the inspection of specially thick-wall steel products: bodies of slide gates and other valves up to 120mm thick – plant Tiazhpromarmatura, Alexin etc
- experience in using of FOSFOMATIC system with high-energy accelerator of 25MeV – Morozov plant, Leningrad region (decrease of exposure time from 2 hours to approx. 15 minutes).
- experience in using roll phosphorous plates 1.5m long together with X-ray crawler IPSI - “Technical diagnostics”, Bratsk (resource of crawler storage batteries increases in 2-3 times).

At the end of 2006 the limited edition of compact mobile version of FOSFOMATIC -21M was issued. This version uses another scanning method with rotary drum and it is restricted by the site of plates - not more than 20x30 cm.

At the end of 2007 by popular demand of “field operators” the “shortened” versions of the instruments were created: FOSFOMATIC -21/100,  FOSFOMATIC -35/100, FOSFOMATIC -40/100 (only the body of instrument was changed without changing the interior). They are designed for the application of phosphorous plates (incl. roll ones) from 5 to 10 cm wide. Having the weight of about 15 kg and equipped with convenient handle, this instrument with size of ordinary attaché case  ideally suits for field conditions of operation.
